Holography and Installation

Divided Line

Produced specifically for a solo exhibition at the Highgate Gallery, London, UK, in response to the coat of arms which permanently occupies the upper back wall of the exhibition space.

A thin white-light, mirror-backed, transmission hologram, is supported on each side by incandescent light tubes and illuminated from above by three light sources.

Title: Divided Line

Date: 1999

Dimensions: 2 meters

Materials: White light transmission hologram on mirror, tubular incandescent light bulbs

Produced specifically for a solo exhibition at the Highgate Gallery, London, UK

The central, multi-coloured, holographic image appears to be supported by the two incandescent light tubes on the left and right.

As an observer moves towards the installation, the incandescent tubes remain stable, but the colour ‘marks’ in the central holographic section shift and overlap.

The central holographic element is a thin section from one of the holograms made together with Erik Krantz at the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne, Germany.
