The sketched lines in Over Drawn<\/strong> exist between the observer and the picture plane; however, in an attempt to optically comprehend the marks, we tend to \u2018flatten\u2019 them onto the surface.<\/p>\n

As the viewer moves past the piece, these marks appear to shift across it. This creates a constant underlying question regarding the definition of these marks: are they flat drawings, disconnected shadows, or dimensional objects?<\/p>\n

An early developmental \u2018sketch\u2019 created in a purpose-built holography studio within the Fine Art department of the University of Reading, UK.<\/p>\n

Flat, hand-drawn marks were applied directly to the glass holographic plate and illuminated by laser light to produce a range of shadows within the recording volume.<\/p>\n
