17th October 2020<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The third and final stage of this curated exhibition brings together 60 contemporary artists who have created new artworks in response to a postcard version of Vel\u00e1zquez\u2019s masterpiece, Las Meninas, for an exhibition that launched at General Practice, Lincoln, in 2019 and subsequently travelled to Oceans Apart, Salford, UK.\u2028<\/p>\n<p><em>Enough is Definitely Enough<\/em> features a wide variety of artistic responses to the Spanish painter\u2019s masterpiece \u2013 arguably the most widely interpreted of all paintings.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Pepper has produced an altered postcard which removes the back of the large canvas (on the left of the painting) and replaces it with a reflection hologram that reveals a space recorded in the past.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;3_5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<p>Art Historian Daniel Arasse reflected many people&#8217;s view that everything, or perhaps even nothing, has been said about Las Meninas -&#8220;what&#8217;s the difference, enough is definitely enough!&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The artists in the exhibition build upon previous interpretations by renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Richard Hamilton, Francisco Goya and Eve Sussman. Artists have long been actively influenced by the centuries old painting by Vel\u00e1zquez; with their responses, in turn, offering influence back to <em>Las Meninas<\/em> to enable new readings. With the artworks made for <em>\u2018<\/em>Enough is Definitely\u00a0Enough\u2019 there is potential for new relationships with Velasquez&#8217;s original painting to open up.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is curated by Andrew Bracey and forms part of his PhD research at the University of Lincoln, whichh explores how contemporary artists have used and appropriated existing paintings by others through the metaphor of the parasite and of symbiosis in connection with painting.<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;
