The Artist Support Pledg<\/strong>e is an initiative on Instagram which supports artists to show their work and sell it to an international audience.<\/p>\n

The idea is a simple one, artists post images of their artwork on social media to sell for no more than (can be less) than \u00a3220 ($220, \u20ac220, A$330, C$330, \u00a522000) each, excluding shipping.<\/p>\n

Anyone can then buy the work. Every time the artist reaches \u00a31100 ($1100, A $1650, C $1650, \u00a5110,000) in sales, they pledge to buy another artist\u2019s work for \u00a3220.<\/p>\n

Thousands of artists have sold original works as part of the Pledge <\/em>and, <\/em>in subsequently purchased works from other artists.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A wide range of media, styles and approaches is represented as part of the Pledge <\/em>and physical gallery exhibitions have begun to be organised to showcase some of the works in their original form.<\/p>\n

Skylines<\/strong> – An ongoing series of images began in 2006 in an attempt to explore the junction between objects (mostly architecture) and a blue sky.<\/p>\n

The basis for taking each photograph has remained constant:\u00a0 The sky must be blue and there should be an apparent line between the object and the sky.<\/p>\n

The expanding collection of images has remained digital (except for small research prints on photo paper). \u00a0 In 2023 I began exploring ways to present them in a more tangible\/physical manner.\u00a0 Printed photographs always felt ‘lacking’ in some way.\u00a0 They made me uncomfortable.<\/p>\n

Printing onto metal appears to emphasise a strange robustness I wasn\u2019t expecting. Something more than a digital print. Something less than an object.\u00a0 There is a structural ‘reinforcement’ caused by the visibility of the 3mm aluminium structure protruding from the display surface.<\/p>\n

A digital book available on Apple Books<\/a> (published in 2014),\u00a0 brings together the early part of the series and includes animated drawings to accompany the still images.<\/p>\n
