Holograms are often displayed like traditional graphics, framed and flat against a gallery wall.\u2028<\/p>\n
Here, the hologram is placed flat on the gallery floor and illuminated from above by a focused theatrical spotlight.\u2028<\/p>\n
This tight rectangle of light picks out the dark surface of the holographic recording. On entering the installation, viewers are presented with both the dark, floor-based rectangle (with no discernible image visible) and a live video image of the hologram shown on a cubic video monitor.\u2028<\/p>\n
The video monitor is illuminated by a small light source, casting a distinct shadow – a dark representation of a cube – into the space in front of the screen.<\/p>\n

The image within the holographic rectangle becomes visible only when standing close to the surface of the hologram, where three levels of light, each punctured by a rectangular \u2018block hole\u2019, can be seen.<\/p>\n
