Shadows appear between the object casting the shadow and the light shining onto that object.\u2028<\/p>\n
Here, the shadow of the rectangle exists between the light and the surface casting it \u2013 between the viewer and the hologram. Moving past the piece causes the shadow to shift and eclipse the object that caused it.\u2028<\/p>\n
We have learnt to take the picture plane very much for granted. It is the surface on which images and marks are located and, in many pieces using painted or graphic perspective, it becomes the \u2018window\u2019 through which we view the depicted scene.<\/p>\n
