Hand-drawn marks act as shading and surface textures within the confines of a continuous line which defines the edge of a graphic cube.<\/p>\n
The shadow of the exterior line is visible in front of the drawn background, in the space between the viewer and the picture plane.<\/p>\n
As with many of Pepper’s holograms, holographic lines are combined with physical lines, marks, and spaces<\/strong> added after the holographic<\/strong> plate has been processed. This was an intentional step in an attempt to align the process of making more closely with the process of drawing.<\/p>\n It is always possible to add more to a drawing, or erase sections. With holography, once the plate is chemically processed, its image is fixed.<\/p>\n Here, the outline (straight lines) is holographic, and the other marks were added several months later, and in a different physical location, giving time for reflection, consideration, and an opportunity to develop the work outside the darkness of the holographic studio.<\/p>\n The hologram was made as part of an Artist in Residence at the Museum of Holography, <\/strong>New York.
